Asbestos in Oxford
The National Asbestos Helpline provides practical advice and professional legal support to those suffering from asbestos related diseases and their families. We also help the families and friends of those who have passed away, and will always be on hand to offer the support that you need in any situation.
Asbestos causes more work-related deaths than anything else, with around 20 tradesmen dying each week from conditions caused by asbestos exposure. Used as a building material between the 1950s and mid-1980s, asbestos was popular because it is waterproof and fire retardant, and because it makes a good cheaper alternative to wood. Electricians, carpenters, plumbers, joiners and many other trades can be affected by asbestos exposure, but regardless of your own condition or background, we are here to help.
Name – Mr L
Location – Client or industry – Oxford
Industry type – Alcan Industries
Compensation amount – £60,000
Information on the case
Mr L was employed by Alcan Industries during the 1960`s until the 1990`s as a Production Operative. He was required to wear asbestos gloves on a daily basis to handle hot aluminium. Mr L would clap his hands together repeatedly in order to make the gloves more pliable. In doing so, asbestos dust would be released into the atmosphere and the claimant would inhale this dust. Mr L was also required to use rolls of asbestos rope to separate sections of hot aluminium. Mr L would firstly have to cut the asbestos rope to size using a knife. When cutting and handling the asbestos rope, asbestos dust and fragments would be released into the air and Mr L would unavoidably inhale this dust. Mr L was diagnosed with Pleural Thickening.
