Living In The Shadow Of Asbestos

Awareness Campaign Launches

The National Asbestos Helpline has launched a new campaign 'Living in the shadow of Asbestos' to highlight the dangers of asbestos and to help those who may have come into contact with the material to recognise the signs of related disease and act promptly by informing their GP.

The campaign launched at the beginning of October will hit 9,500 GP surgeries throughout England & Wales.

Are you living in the shadow of asbestos?

Campaign leaflets and posters purposely depict a 60+ retired tradesman representing those who are most at risk of an asbestos-related disease.

The concern held by the National Asbestos Helpline is that those who have worked, knowingly or unknowingly, with asbestos during their working life may ignore symptoms because of the delay between exposure and symptoms (often between 10 and 50 years) and may simply attribute them to older age.

Speak to your GP

The importance of telling your GP about any possible exposure to asbestos is being stressed to ensure that possible asbestos-related disease can be diagnosed at the earliest possible opportunity and quality of life is improved for those affected.

If you have any questions or would like further guidance or copies, please contact the National Asbestos Helpline on           0800 043 6635.
