Advice clinic for those affected by asbestos

Posted: 12th Mar 15 11:34 AM

The National Asbestos Helpline is coming to Ellesmere Port to hold an asbestos advice clinic for anyone affected by past exposure to asbestos dust and fibres.

The clinic will be held on Thursday, March 26th, from 11am to 4pm, at the Ellesmere Port & District Labour Social Club in Flatt Lane. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

The doors are open to anyone concerned that they, or a loved-one, may have developed a lung disease due to a historical exposure to asbestos dust and fibres. Visitors will be able to discuss how to access practical, emotional, legal and financial support for asbestos-related illnesses.

The West Cheshire Interstitial Lung Disease Group will talk to visitors about what it is like to live with a lung disease.

Ellesmere Port has been chosen because of its heavy industrial oil, chemical and manufacturing history close to Wirral’s shipyards. Asbestos was widely used within these industries from the 1940s through to the 1980s. It can take between 10 and 50 years for a person to develop an asbestos disease after exposure.
