A former plumber recently received asbestos compensation from the company responsible for his exposure to the carcinogenic substance.
Cyril Faulkner worked as a plumber for Hawkins and Holmes Limited from 1961 to 1973, according to the Northern Echo.
While working with pipes and boilers, Faulkner came into contact with asbestos, which caused him to develop the mesothelioma he was diagnosed with in 2008.
Faulkner secured the services of a mesothelioma solicitor, who was able to get him his undisclosed asbestos settlement from his former employer.
“For more than ten years, Mr. Faulkner was exposed to this potentially lethal substance and was never issued the protective equipment which would have prevented his development of such a painful and aggressive disease,” the mesothelioma lawyer told the news source.
“During the time that he worked at Hawkins and Holmes, his employers would have been aware of the dangers that asbestos posed, but yet the company did nothing to help him.”
Many blue-collar workers like Faulkner came in contact with asbestos on the job and have developed asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer as a result.
